The first moment I knew that I wanted to design clothes was when I tried on Yohji Yamamoto piece from my mother’s closet. The dress was this crazy asymmetrical piece with origami fold within the fold. I was 8 and I was hooked. From that point on I had a fashion bug for Japanese designers from Comme des Garçons, Issey Miyake, Kenzo Takada, Kansai Yamamoto to Junya Watanabe. I always wanted to create clothes that are interesting, complicated, beautiful, and timeless. When I was younger I tried to conform to the trend as any adolescent would do. I felt stuck, trap, and unhappy. I never really fit into a cookie cutter world. Now that I’m much older and doing what I truly love. I find comfort in being myself and finding the influence of these amazing designers to be endless source of inspiration. The insight from Mr. Yamamoto below is right on point. That is how I feel of our current state of fashion.
